Before the day

The day is worked in R, inside an IDE, on a ready-made workspace that you download and check by following the setup page. The browser lab runs the same exercise in a browser tab and gives the same numbers. The facilitator uses it on the shared screen, and it is the place to carry on if a machine fails.

Work through What you do Timing
Setup Install R and an IDE (Positron, RStudio, VS Code, etc.), download the workspace zip and run R/check_setup.R until it prints OK. Open the browser lab once as well and confirm that it loads on the machine you will use. The help page has the problems that other participants have met. 30 to 60 minutes, once
Positron, RStudio and VS Code Optional. Where the console, the variables and the data viewer are in the IDE you chose, and what changes between the three. Section 6 is a six-step run through the workspace. 30 minutes
Exercise overview Read the claim you will be working on and the table of what the five Multi100 analysts found when they reanalysed it. 10 minutes
Getting started with R Optional. Worth the time if you have never written R: objects, data frames, reading a CSV, and the pipe. An evening
Reading a specification curve Optional pre-reading for Part 4, on what a large set of results together can and cannot establish. 20 minutes

By the start of the day you have the workspace working on the machine you will use, and you know what the claim is and how far apart the results of the five Multi100 analysts are.
